Badriya al-Badi'a

Badriya is a dynamic and exciting performer of Egyptian-styled raqs sharqi--aka belly dance. Her deep love for Arabic music is evident in her every undulation and shimmy. In addition to performing to the great classic songs of Arabic music, Badriya embraces the full spectrum of Arabic dance, from raqs assaya (cane dance) to baladi to shaabi pop to khaleegi and beyond. She may be seen regularly at Boston area nightclubs and restaurants, and is available for parties and other events.

On Badriya's darker nights, she is a performer of Raqs Gothique, or gothic belly dance, and other chimerical styles of belly dance (Chimerical: existing only as the product of unchecked imagination; fantastically visionary or improbable). Having grown up in the gothic subculture, it was only natural for Badriya to dance to gothic music, often containing its own Middle Eastern influences. She has performed this style at gothic nightclubs, private parties and science fiction conventions, and is the promoter of the annual gothic belly dance event Raks Spooki, held every fall.
